P.O.D.A. Project Kick Off Party

Are you looking for something fun to do next Thursday evening? Help kick off the AAM 2011 Annual Meeting in style! The American Association of Museums 2011 Local Host Committee, in partnership with PODS® Houston, Houston Arts Alliance, the City of Houston, Discovery Green and the Houston Museum District Association invite you to Discovery Green on May 19 from 6 – 8 pm for the unveiling of the Portable On Demand Art (P.O.D.A.) Project. Mingle with the P.O.D.A. Project artists and sponsors while enjoying food and beverage provided by Fusion Taco and Saint Arnold Brewing Company!

Following the P.O.D.A Project reception, attendees can rock out at Discovery Green’s free, family-friendly Thursday Concert Series featuring guitar-goddess and sultry, soul singer Carolyn Wonderland!

The P.O.D.A. Project is a temporary public art exhibition featuring the work of Aerosol Warfare, BOX 13 ArtSpace, Jillian Conrad, Lynne McCabe, Gabriel Martinez, Metalab, Anthony Thompson Shumate and The Joanna. Each artist or collective of artists has uniquely transform a PODS® container into a work of art and this traveling exhibition will debut at Discovery Green before touring a series of locations (TBA) throughout the greater Houston region.

AAM attendees – the P.O.D.A. Project was created especially for you, so we hope you’ll come by Discovery Green park, which is right across the street from the George R. Brown Convention Center and Hilton Americas hotel, to see the exhibition while you are in Houston for the AAM conference.

AAM volunteers – the AAM 2011 Volunteer Orientation is happening at the GRB from 4-6 pm on May 19, immediately before the P.O.D.A. Project event at Discovery Green. We hope you will come by after your orientation and join us for some fun in the park to celebrate the new exhibit!

Houstonians – we encourage you to come by and see it too! You are going to love it!

The P.O.D.A. Project is generously funded by PODS Houston and a grant from the City of Houston’s Special Initiative Grant Program through the Houston Arts Alliance and Houston Museum District Association.
